At Connaught Carpet & Flooring, we offer a delightful selection of rugs and runners that can add colour, warmth, and personality to any space. Whether you have hard flooring that needs a soft accent or you want to protect high-traffic areas, our rugs and runners provide both practical benefits and decorative flair.
Step into our showroom and you’ll find rugs in various styles and sizes: from plush shaggy rugs perfect for sinking your toes into on a cozy night, to flatweave kilims with vibrant patterns that become artwork on your floor. We carry modern designs with geometric prints, classic Oriental-inspired motifs for a touch of elegance, and everything in between.
In open-plan spaces, use rugs to delineate zones (for example, a rug under the dining table, another in the seating area). This not only organises the space visually but also protects floors from chair scuffs or heavy furniture.
If your room is mostly neutral or has solid colours, a patterned rug can introduce a pop of colour or an eye-catching design element. Conversely, if your décor is already vibrant, a neutral rug can ground the space. We have options from subtle sisal rugs (which can also be bound with colourful borders) to bold contemporary designs.
Rugs make a room feel cozy. They add a layer of insulation on cold hard floors and feel great underfoot, especially in bedrooms or living rooms where you might sit on the floor to play with kids or pets. A thick-pile rug can even serve as a comfy spot for lounging.
Place runners in high-traffic zones like hallways or entries to catch dirt and reduce wear on your permanent flooring. They’re easier to replace or clean than wall-to-wall carpet. Plus, if you have an older wood floor with character, a runner can protect the middle while still showing off the wood on the sides.
Let’s chat flooring – drop in today.
Whether you want a full coverage (leaving a small margin of wood visible on each side for a classic look) or covering the entire width of each step. To add that extra touch, consider our range of stair rods – these are decorative rods that sit at the base of each riser, holding the runner in place and coming in lovely finishes like brass, chrome, black, or pewter. They hark back to traditional English interiors and can really elevate the style factor of your stairs.

Engineered WoodThe pattern we wanted was quite complex, but the installers took their time and the result is spot on. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
In most cases, yes! As long as the carpet you choose can be cut to the size you want (some very thick or shag carpets can be trickier to bind, but we have ways to handle most materials), we can turn it into a rug or runner. We will cut it to your specified dimensions and then use an appropriate binding method: this could be a matching tape binding, a contrasting fabric border (for example, a tapestry border on a sisal rug looks fab), or an overlock stitch for a simple finish. You’ll end up with a bespoke rug that looks factory-made. It’s one of our favourite services because you get exactly the size and look you need.
Yes, we have a range of easy-care rugs. Many modern rugs are made from polypropylene or other synthetic fibers that are inherently stain-resistant and can even be cleaned with diluted bleach for tough stains. Some smaller rugs are machine-washable – perfect for door mats or kitchen runners that see a lot of mess. If you have a high-traffic household or pets, let us know and we’ll steer you towards rugs that can take the abuse (short pile, multi-coloured or patterned to hide marks, etc.). We also have outdoor rugs that can be used on patios and simply hosed down to clean. There’s a rug for every need!
It depends on the room and furniture layout. A few general tips: for a living room, a popular approach is to have a rug large enough that at least the front legs of all your seating sit on it – this ties the space together. For a dining room, the rug should be big enough that chairs remain on it even when pulled out (usually that means the rug is about 60cm/2 feet larger than the table on all sides). In bedrooms, you can either do a large rug under the bed that sticks out on the sides and foot, or smaller accent rugs at each side. Hall runners usually should leave a few inches of floor visible on each side for a balanced look. Don’t worry if this sounds complicated – bring us your room dimensions and maybe a sketch, and we’ll help figure out the ideal rug size. And since we can custom-make, we’re not limited to standard sizes.
We provide non-slip underlay that you can place under your rug or runner. This underlay not only keeps the rug in place (important for safety, especially on wood or tile floors) but also provides extra cushioning. For stair runners, we use professional installation techniques (tack strips/rods) to secure the runner, so it won’t budge. If you already have a rug at home that’s sliding, come see us and we can cut you a piece of underlay to solve the problem. It makes a big difference.
Yes, we sell a variety of stair rods and accessories. If you’re getting a stair runner installed by us, we can order the rods in the finish you like and install them at the same time for a neat result. If you have an existing runner and want to add rods for decor, that’s usually possible too as long as the runner is properly fitted. The rods themselves are mostly decorative nowadays (the runner is usually secured with staples or gripper underneath), but they do add that classic look. We’ll measure your staircase to get the right rod lengths and brackets. Finishes range from shiny chrome to antique brass, black wrought iron, etc., to match your home’s style.
