Thanks for coming back for part 2
Comfort and Warmth
Speaking of cold toes, one reason people used to hesitate about hard flooring in bathrooms or kitchens was the chill. LVT, while not as inherently warm as carpet, is warmer underfoot than ceramic tile or stone. It doesn’t conduct cold from the subfloor as much, so even on a winter morning, it’s not as startlingly icy. And if you have underfloor heating, LVT is a perfect companion. It transfers heat efficiently and won’t be harmed by temperature changes (as long as the UFH is properly regulated). We often install LVT over underfloor heating in new kitchen extensions – the heat-up is quick and the feel is comfortably snug, making that first cup of tea in the morning an even warmer experience.
Additionally, LVT has a slight resilience, a little “give”. So if you’re standing cooking for an hour, it’s easier on the feet and back than a rock-hard tile floor. One of our staff members even noted less fatigue in her legs after switching from tiles to LVT in her own kitchen.
Easy Cleaning - A Blessing for Busy Homes
Kitchens and bathrooms see daily cleaning action. LVT makes this chore easier. A simple sweep or vacuum followed by a damp mop is all it needs. There’s no grout to scrub (hallelujah for those who’ve battled grimy grout lines on tiled floors!). And no special cleaners or polishes needed like with wood, just avoid very harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubs, which you wouldn’t use on any good floor anyway. Usually, a bit of mild detergent or the recommended LVT cleaner is enough for even the stubborn spots.
Stains typically aren’t an issue. Unlike porous stone or grout that can discolour, LVT’s protective wear layer resists staining. Turmeric spill during curry night? Wipe it off, and it won’t leave that dreaded yellow mark that it would on porous surfaces. Hair dye mishap in the bathroom? As long as you catch it in reasonable time, it should come off without a trace (and a lot less worry than if it hit a carpet or a wood floor).
Parents of young kids love LVT because you can allow all the messy science experiments or baking sessions, then clean up with a smile. Similarly, pet owners appreciate that muddy paw prints or the occasional accident won’t seep in, just wipe and it’s gone, no lingering odour.
Fits Our Homes - Installation Benefits
From an installer’s viewpoint, LVT is relatively thin and flexible, which can be a benefit in Hebden Bridge’s older homes. If your kitchen has an uneven subfloor or height constraints, LVT can often be fit where a thicker wood or tile might be problematic (with tile you’d need a good subfloor prep to avoid cracks). We always ensure the subfloor is smooth (often applying a self-levelling compound or ply lining before LVT), but LVT’s forgiving nature means it’s less likely to crack or pop like tiles can if there’s slight movement or a hairline subfloor crack.
Also, in tight bathroom spaces or quirky layouts, we can cut LVT to fit snugly around features (toilets, pedestal sinks, etc.) – places where cutting tile might be a challenge or leave big grout gaps. With the right tools, we scribe LVT for a neat finish around those obstacles.
For upstairs bathrooms, LVT is much lighter than tiles, and no risk of leaks through (provided it’s installed well). It’s also usually quieter – you won’t get the click-clack echo you sometimes get on floating laminate or the hollow sound of some tiles. LVT tends to have a solid, satisfying footfall noise.
Cost-Effective Luxury
We’d be remiss not to mention cost… while not dirt cheap, LVT generally comes in cheaper than good ceramic/porcelain tile or hardwood, especially when you factor in the easier installation and no need for expensive adhesives or grouts. And you save in the long run on maintenance (no resealing grout, no refinishing wood). So you get a high-end look without as high-end a bill, which many homeowners appreciate. It’s a smart investment that adds value to your home’s appeal.
Our Thoughts
In our experience, once someone opts for LVT in a kitchen or bathroom, they rarely regret it, in fact, many end up extending it to utility rooms or hallways after seeing how well it performs. The combination of style, durability, and ease of care is just hard to beat for these wet, busy areas of the house. If you’re contemplating a renovation, come see the huge variety of LVT options we have. Whether your vibe is farmhouse kitchen or sleek modern bath, we’ll help you find an LVT design to match.
